Fort Benning Family Communities Celebrates Grand Opening of Village Center
Fort Benning, Ga.— At today's ribbon-cutting ceremony, Fort Benning Family Communities, a partnership between the Department of the Army, Clark Realty, and American Management Services East, celebrated the completion of 74 new homes and the grand opening of the neighborhood village center for residents of McGraw Village at Fort Benning. This event commemorates the first community to be redeveloped at Fort Benning in 40 years.

Speakers included William A. Armbruster, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army (Privatization and Partnerships); Major General Walter Wojdakowski, Commanding General of Fort Benning; Honorable Lynn Westmoreland, Representative for the 8th Congressional District of Georgia; and Phil Cowley, Development Executive, Clark Realty. Local business leaders and residents of the surrounding community enjoyed the inauguration of the McGraw Village Center, including the unveiling of the highly anticipated community pool and splash pad. Immediately following the ceremony, guests participated in a "Festival on the Green" which included a southern style barbeque luncheon and family activities.

McGraw Village Center boasts a fitness center, game room, catering kitchen, and community room. The Village Center, coupled with tot lots, biking/walking trails, and ample green space, will help to provide a sense of camaraderie among residents, which is essential in an Army community.

"At Fort Benning, we are building more than just homes; we're building communities," said Clark Realty's Phil Cowley, who directs the redevelopment efforts at Fort Benning. "We listened to artists and master planners, people experienced in every aspect of this kind of project. But in the end, we took into consideration what the residents wanted. They're the community experts."

Along with the McGraw Village Center, the redevelopment of the homes at Fort Benning is dramatically changing the look and feel of typical barrack style living. The Arts-and-Crafts and Colonial style homes offer a range of floor plans, elevations, and colors resulting in more than 400 unit variations that rival neighboring market-rate communities. The architecture, modeled after several local-area historic buildings, provide homes with southern charm and antiquity. The neighborhoods overlook tree-lined streets, green space, and inviting sidewalks lined with lamp posts. The high-quality amenities in McGraw Village, coupled with the individuality of each home, will help to establish the same sense of community for residents that they could experience off post.
