FORT BENNING, Ga.— On Wednesday, Energy Star® announced that Fort Benning Military Housing, developed by Clark Realty Capital and built by Clark Builders Group, has earned the 2012 Energy Star Leadership in Housing Award. The accolade is awarded to builders that reach the threshold of 50 Energy Star qualified homes in the calendar year. This marks the third consecutive year the project has earned the award, recognizing Clark as an active partner in the Energy Star Certified New Homes program and a participant in the Home Performance with Energy Star Whole-House Retrofit program. Clark has helped more than 2,000 soldiers and their families living in Fort Benning's neighborhoods save energy and money while enjoying more comfortable homes.
"Our program is proud to see that soldier families at Fort Benning have the opportunity to enjoy the many benefits that come with living in a home that has earned the Energy Star® label," said Jonathan Passe, director of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)'s Energy Star residential branch. "These Energy Star Certified Homes offer greater quality, comfort, and value than typical homes, while helping to protect the environment."
To date, nearly 1,400 of these high-performing homes have already been delivered at Fort Benning, making it one of the largest Energy Star developments in the state of Georgia. Nearly 300 additional new homes are currently being built to meet the program's new and even more rigorous standards. "The Fort Benning Family Housing project is now the largest in the nation, renovated to meet or exceed the Home Performance with Energy Star® standards," said Chandler von Schrader, manager at EPA's Home Protection with Energy Star program.
In 2008, Clark built a total of 718 Energy Star-qualified homes at Fort Benning, making it the number one builder and developer of Energy Star homes in the state of Georgia and garnering the 2009 Energy Star Leadership in Housing Award. Clark's efforts in 2008 were equivalent to eliminating the emissions from 352 vehicles, saving 2,128,152 pounds of coal, planting 582 acres of trees, and saving homeowners $320,946 on their utility bills. In 2009 and 2010, Clark renovated and built a total of 383 and 658 Energy Star-qualified homes, respectively, at Fort Benning.
"Since 2005, Clark has been committed to building 100 percent of new on-post soldier family homes at Fort Benning to meet stringent requirements set by EPA's Energy Star Certified New Homes program" said Mike Douglass, development executive at Clark Realty Capital.
Clark Realty Capital also recently completed comprehensive renovations of more than 650 on-post homes using the Home Performance with Energy Star® program's standards. During the renovation process, the energy performance of each home was increased over 20 percent through improvements such as new insulated duct work, energy-efficient heat pumps, Energy Star qualified windows and appliances, ultra-efficient Marathon® water heaters, new insulation, and careful attention to building envelope sealing. ###About Clark Realty Capital
