SAN DIEGO — Last week, Clark Builders Group, Clark Realty Capital, and Clark Construction hosted over 240 participants at the sixth annual Clark CARES charity golf tournament. Held at Maderas Golf Club, the two day tournament raised more than $300,000 in proceeds benefiting local nonprofit organizations, including those in support of military veterans and youth development.
Among the tournament beneficiaries was the Chelsea's Light Foundation, which aims to protect children and to "uphold the inherent right to experience the innocence and joy of childhood." The Foundation was established in honor of local teenager Chelsea King, whose tragic loss earlier this year affected the entire San Diego community. "We are deeply touched by the generosity of Clark CARES," said Kelly and Brent King, founders of Chelsea's Light. "Our daughter Chelsea was constantly engaged in various aspects of her community in the same spirit as the Clark family of companies. This contribution to our Sunflower Scholarship Fund will motivate and reward hard-working high school students who have their hearts set on going to college."
Also upholding the community's youth, the Betsy and Adrian Gonzalez Foundation, instituted by San Diego Padres first baseman Adrian Gonzalez and his wife, empowers underprivileged children through athletics, education and health. "Betsy and I are honored and thrilled that Clark CARES is now supporting our foundation's scholarship fund," said Gonzalez. "Together, we can do our part to ensure that education remains a cornerstone of our community."
In honor of Veteran's Day, Clark CARES also supported military charities including Operation Rebound, a branch of the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) that provides support to our military veterans, and the United Warrior Survivor Foundation (UWSF), a repeat beneficiary dedicated exclusively to serving the needs of surviving spouses of military personnel killed in the line of duty since September 11, 2001. On behalf of Operation Rebound, program manager Nico Marcolongo remarked, "We are honored to be chosen by Clark CARES. We appreciate Clark's commitment to our injured troops and allowing them to experience the healing power of sports." Deployed US Navy SEAL and president of UWSF Nick Rocha added, "Clark CARES truly understands and supports the families of military wounded, the fallen, and their children. Everyone from Clark understands that what they do as a company and through Clark CARES impacts the military and civilian families alike."
Over 90 corporate sponsors throughout the Southern California region contributed to this year's event. Many of these sponsoring companies return year after year in support of Clark CARES, which has raised over $1.6 million and contributed to more than 30 charitable organizations in San Diego alone. "The unparalleled generosity of our partners is compelling beyond words, let alone in this economy when many are struggling," said Jim Forburger, senior vice president of Clark Builders Group. "Clark CARES would not be possible without the amazing support of our sponsors."
On both evenings of the event, the tournament included a dinner and awards reception at Maderas Golf Club's Del Lago Ballroom. Reception highlights included the announcement of tournament winners and a formal donation presentation to the charitable recipients.# # #About The Clark CARES Foundation
