Clark Communities Receive Three Gold Nugget Design/Build Awards
SAN FRANCISCO — At the Pacific Coast Builders Conference's (PCBC) 47th annual luncheon today, Clark Builders Group (CBG) and Clark Realty Capital (CRC) proudly accepted three Gold Nugget Awards for two of their San Diego communities. Clark's Marine Corps Air Station Miramar (MCAS) 6500 Clubhouse took home the Grand award for Best Public/Private Recreational Use Facility, and Pacific Beacon won awards of merit for both Best Multi-Family Housing Project Over Six Stories and Best Outdoor Living Space. The Gold Nugget Awards, which are the largest and oldest of their kind, honor creative achievements and community improvement through innovative design, planning and development.

"This clubhouse on a military installation serves a special need, bringing the community together during stressful times," said the judges of Miramar 6500. "The location is central and pedestrian friendly, encouraging residents to walk to enjoy this stunning facility. This 6500 square foot building includes a teen room, a children's room and classroom, and conference rooms with computer stations. The exterior architecture reflects the historic San Diego location and rivals the best of local resorts." Part of Clark's public/private venture with the U.S. Navy, the Miramar development includes single and multifamily townhomes within a planned community. The Miramar 6500 Clubhouse is a focal point of the neighborhood and features an exterior courtyard with a water fountain, fireplace, and built-in barbeques.

Pacific Beacon at Naval Base San Diego is the nation's first luxury apartment community serving unaccompanied Sailors. Judges expressed praise for "…this unique offering of four 18-story buildings that feature 941 dual master suite units to fill the Navy's immediate and long term needs for housing." Judges also heralded the community as "…worlds away from traditional barracks, providing Sailors with open floor plans, extensive amenities, including energy efficient features all while providing jobs for the local economy." Among the project's features are a rooftop Sky Terrace with pool and spa, three fitness centers totaling 9500 square feet, a Wi-Fi coffee bar, two rooftop penthouse game rooms, a multimedia theater, several lounges, a coffee shop, a dry cleaning valet, and Subway restaurant. Outdoor amenities include an athletic field, running path, basketball courts, sand volleyball courts, horseshoe pits, BBQ areas, an outdoor Courtyard Living Room, and an outdoor movie theater.

"We are honored to have been recognized for these military projects among such a large group of competitors," said Jim Forburger, senior vice president of CBG. "These three awards represent our dedication to superior construction and community planning, which is a cornerstone of each project we undertake."

Heralded for successful execution of community living, CBG and CRG continue to raise the bar in military housing amenities and design. The Miramar and Pacific Beacon communities, which emerged successful among a pool of over 400 public and private projects, mark Clark's first entries into the Gold Nugget Awards.
